Prodigal wasteful, extravagant
Tough love - simply refusing to enable your child to practice dangerous or bad behavior.
Think of the Prodigal Son. Did the father's behavior enable the son's bad behavior.
Reactions of other people can affect how you will handle things.
- Not you, you can not have that happen
- Given unsolicited advice.
- Some may hurt for you (an may even try to take over your family).
If someone comes to you with unthinking remarks about the situation respond not in anger but use replies that will reflect the situation off of you.
Family Responses to your prodigal child
These roles keep us from helping each other deal with the situations.
Protector - this is the person who handles the problem and keeps the situation out of public eye (or other family eye)
The person who nurtures - the one who tries to make sure that people are taken care of.
Forgotten person - the person who appears independent and we do not realize that they are affected as well. They are boiling away on the inside.
Parent reactions are different. Do not assume that how another is handling things is wrong. Learn to talk to each other.
Our identity is not in the little voices that cry out to us to tell us how bad we are. Our identity is in the truth of God's word. We are what God says we are.
