Overcomer: Overcoming the Curse of Comparing
Stare down your fears, shatter your insecurities, and shake off the apathy that tries to hold you back. You’re not a prisoner—you’re an Overcomer.

====================================

Fastest way to kill something special is to compare it to something else.

Where comparison begins, contentment ends.

We compare our behind the scenes with everyone else's highlight reel.

2 Corinthians 10:12 NLT
… But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!

Comparing makes you feel either superior or inferior—neither honors God.

We all tend to live in the land of Er.  We want to be faster, smarter, prettier. Some even want to live in the land of Est. In the end, if you try to live in either land you will wind up miserablest if you try to live in Er or Est.

John 20:2-4, 6, 8 NIV
So she [Mary] came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. …6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. …8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside.

John 21:20-22 NIV
Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”

Peter was given an assignment.  Then he compares himself to John.  Jesus then tells him to do what he was told to do.  We cannot fully follow Jesus if we are comparing ourselves to someone else.  There is no win in comparison.

Who or what is going to define my worth?
If you are a Jesus follower and the answer to this is anything but Jesus you can not win.

Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Run the race in the lane marked for you. Stay in your lane. You run your own race and compete against yourself.

1 Corinthians 9:24-26 NLT
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.

You can not win someone else's race.  Run your own race.
